Here's how you know you are emotionally immature.
You react before you reflect and you defend instead
of listening. And when something feels uncomfortable
you rush to explain it away.
It's what David Schnarch meant when he said that
emotional maturity isn't about staying calm, it's about
staying present when your ego wants to run.
Because emotional immaturity doesn't look like being
childish, it looks like needing to be right.
It looks like taking feedback as an attack.
It looks like saying that's not just how I am instead
of asking why did that land so hard. Watch for it.
You interrupt instead of getting curious.
You shut down instead of staying with the feeling.
You personalize things that were never about you.
But here is what really is happening.
You react so you don't have to feel exposed.
You argue so you don't have to feel uncertain.
And deep down staying emotionally small once kept
you safe.
