Overthinking isn't intelligence.
It's avoidance that sounds smart.
8 ways to get out of your head.
1) Notice the voice in your head that comments on everything.
You are the one hearing it. That means you are not the voice.
2) Stop treating every thought like an emergency.
A thought can be loud, convincing, and completely untrue.
3) Overthinking is not a personality trait.
It is what happens when your analytical mind becomes so loud
that your creative brain loses access to possibility, connection
and action.
4) Name what is happening in the moment outloud.
Say: "I am having ___ that something bad will happen."
The small distance weakens its grip.
5) Bring your attention below your body.
Feel your feet on the floor. Your hands. Your breath
moving in your chest. Overthinking lives in abstraction.
Presence lives in body sensations.
6) Ask one grounding question:
"What is actually wrong right now?"
Not tomorrow.
Not from an email you got.
Or a conversation you're replaying.
Right now.
7) Let uncomfortable feelings exist without solving them.
This is a hard one.
Don't fight with the discomfort. Instead, move forward
in your day. Your mind will want to pull you back into
obsessive ruminating. Drop it and move onto what you
can actively do in the here and now.
8) Give your mind an image, not another answer.
Draw what anxiety feels like. Walk without your Phone
outdoors for 20 minutes. Watch light move across a wall.
Your creative brain can metabolize what your analytical
brain keeps rehearsing.
