Every relationship you maintain,
until you do the difficult work of
withdrawing your projections, is
partially imaginary.

Your unconscious selects a
suitable carrier in the
external world and deposits
its hidden material there.

You then relate to that
person as though your
inner image of them is
who they actually are.

The other person, in this
condition, is not truly seen.

They become a living
screen onto which
your unconscious displays its own film.

This is not mirror
distortion. It is the
default condition of
human relating.

The emotion bond
feels genuine. The
perception feels objective.

But the charge, the symbolic
weight, the overwhelming
sense that this person is
extraordinary or unbearable,
Belongs to the one who is
projecting.

The projection, requires
something real in the
other person to catch
hold of.

Jung called this the hook.

The hook is real,
but everything hanging from
it belongs to you.

And it can function undisturbed
for a lifetime if no one questions it.
